Coach Nate Jones brings a lifetime of passion and commitment to the sport of volleyball. With decades of experience competing and coaching, his journey spans from high school courts and U.S. Air Force teams to the sands of beach volleyball tournaments. Coach Nate’s well-rounded background as both a player and mentor gives him a unique ability to connect with athletes at every stage of their development.

A proud graduate of Gwynn Park High School, Coach Nate began his coaching career there in the early 2000s, guiding young athletes with the same dedication and discipline that defined his own playing days. Today, he serves as the Varsity Head Coach at McDonough High School, where his teams are known for their resilience, teamwork, and relentless energy on the court. This season marks his second year with Borinquen Volleyball Academy, where he continues to strengthen the club’s foundation of player development and community values.

Coach Nate’s approach to coaching is rooted in teaching fundamentals through game-like situations that prepare players to perform confidently under pressure. He emphasizes that volleyball is not only a technical sport but also one that builds character, accountability, and mental toughness. Every practice is designed to help athletes think critically, communicate effectively, and push beyond their comfort zones.

Believing that it takes a village to raise and support successful athletes, Coach Nate fosters an environment of trust and collaboration among players, parents, and staff. He encourages open communication, mutual respect, and a sense of family that extends beyond the court. His leadership reflects a balance between structure and empathy, challenging players to give their best while celebrating their growth at every step.

Coach Nate’s ultimate goal is to help each player discover their full potential through consistent effort, discipline, and self-belief. His personal coaching motto, one that defines both his teams and his philosophy is:

“As a team, we must get comfortable performing in uncomfortable situations.”

Through this mindset, Coach Nate inspires athletes to embrace challenges, overcome adversity, and grow not only as volleyball players but as confident young adults ready to take on whatever comes next.
